Water and sewerage companies
Water supply and sewerage services in England and Wales are managed by water companies. They are:
- Affinity Water – North and West London and the surrounding Home Counties
- Anglian Water – East of England
- Bournemouth Water – Bournemouth and surrounding areas
- Bristol Water – Bristol and surrounding areas
- Cambridge Water – Cambridge, extending to Ramsey in the North, Gamlingay in the West, Balsham in the Wast and Melbourn in the South
- Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water – Most of Wales, Herefordshire and parts of Deeside
- Essex & Suffolk Water – Essex and Suffolk area
- Hafren Dyfrdwy – North East and mid-Wales
- Northumbrian Water – North East England
- Portsmouth Water – Portsmouth and surrounding areas
- Severn Trent Water – Midlands, from the outskirts of Sheffield, down to Bristol, and into north and mid-Wales
- South East Water – South East of England
- South Staffs Water – West Midlands, South Staffordshire, South Derbyshire, North Warwickshire and North Worcestershire areas
- South West Water – Cornwall, Devon, the Isles of Scilly and parts of Dorset and Somerset
- Southern Water – Kent, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and East & West Sussex
- SES Water – Surrey, Kent and South London
- Thames Water – London and the Thames Valley
- United Utilities – North West of England
- Wessex Water – South West of England
- Yorkshire Water – Yorkshire region
New Appointments and Variations (NAVs)
A NAV company is approved by Ofwat to provide water and/or sewerage services to specific sites instead of the usual water company responsible for the area. They operate under the same rules and responsibilities as the main companies and need permission from Ofwat to expand their services to new locations.
